Destination Review – Magnificent Mendoza

Nestling comfortably against the foothills of the Andes, Mendoza is one of those cities that welcomes you with open arms, and hugs you so tightly that you may never want to leave!

A city of atmospheric plazas, endless vineyards, and street side cafes, Mendoza is relaxed, laid back and inviting, and while many plan to visit for a day or two on their way along the ‘Ruta Nacional 7’ from Buenos Aires to Santiago, you could easily spend an entire week there enjoying the highlights.

Due to its fantastic position and climate, Mendoza enjoys the title of “the largest wine-producing area in Latin America”, and anyone who enjoys visiting vineyards and tasting New World Wines, will appreciate the sheer volume of wineries available.

From delicate whites, to bold and robust reds, Mendoza produces some of the finest wines in the world, and there is nothing better than taking a wine tour through the beautiful countryside with a group of like-minded travellers.

After a day or two uncovering the city, enjoying the delicious menus available, and overindulging in fine Argentinean wines, one can rejuvenate with a trip to Las Termas de Cacheuta and relax in the natural thermal pools.  A wonderful day trip for those who enjoy pampering themselves, Cacheuta is easily accessible from the main bus terminal in Mendoza, and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

If you are heading to Argentina on an adventure holiday, then you will be pleased to know that Mount Aconcagua is just a short hop from Mendoza and that there are numerous trekking options available.

The nightlife in Mendoza is varied and plentiful, with people of every age, creed and colour coming together to enjoy great food and live music while they catch up on all the gossip.  From fine dining restaurants to snack bars, the city is full of dining options, so whatever you are looking for you will not be disappointed.

Mendoza really is a wonderful destination for travellers, and if you fancy doing something a little out of the ordinary on your next holiday, we can highly recommend this Argentinean gem!
