Spring Holiday’s for the over 50’s

When it comes to exploring the world and discovering new places, the over 50’s age group is hot on the tails of gap year students as they pursue their dreams of visiting far-flung destinations across the globe.

No longer satisfied with package tours to European destinations such as Spain, Italy and Greece, the over 50’s are just as passionate about discovering exotic destinations as their children are, and with more time and more disposable income at their fingertips, the fabulous 50 crowd are taking advantage of long-haul destinations such as Africa, Brazil and New Zealand.

Why is this?  Well I am sure there are many significant factors. Reaching the age of 50 is no longer a step in to old age, but simply one of the many milestones we collect throughout the journey of life, and as advances in nutrition and medicine mean we are living longer than ever before, it makes perfect sense that we make the most of our “golden years”.

Waiting for retirement is one option, but for those that cannot wait that long there is a whole new world of exciting travel opportunities available to the over 50’s.  Small group escorted tours are on the increase, and they are the perfect solution for single travellers or those who simply prefer the comfort and convenience of travelling with an experienced guide and a group of like-minded people.

Cruising is another popular mode of travel for the more mature age group, and if you enjoy five-star luxury accommodations, great dining possibilities, and the option to visit several different countries on one trip, this is definitely something to add to your bucket list.

By the time we reach our 50’s, many of us will have spent a good part of our lives working and raising families, so no one can say we do not deserve it!

So if you find yourself waving your kids off on their gap year this year, why not treat yourself to the holiday you have always dreamed of –  life begins at forty 50 after all!
