Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, and if want to impress a loved one this year, why not ditch the oversized valentine’s card and predictable red roses, in favour of a romantic weekend away instead.

Most hotels offer Valentine’s packages that combine accommodation with romantic meals, Spa treatments for two, and perhaps, a bottle of bubbly, and the best thing of all, is that you get to enjoy it just as much as the person you have bought it for!

I can think of at least a hundred hotels where I would like to spend Valentine’s Day, but as I will be working (I know, poor me!), I thought I would share my top Romantic Hotels with you to get some love in the air!

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, South Africa

Grootbos is seriously romantic at any time of year thanks to its perfect location overlooking Walker Bay in South Africa, but during Valentine’s, Michael and his team really go to town! Love hearts, roses, champagne, four-poster beds and idyllic sunsets are guaranteed at Grootbos… the rest is up to you!

Hotel Sacher, Salzburg

Home of the world-famous Sacher Torte, the Sacher Hotel is opulent, luxurious, and quite simply, one of the most romantic properties in Austria. Sitting on the banks of the river Salzach, the Sacher Hotel is ideally placed for exploring Salzburg, and as each of the rooms are decorated with original works of art and genuine antiques, you are surrounded by passion and love.

Meliá Hotel, Zanzibar

Oh what I wouldn’t give to be in Zanzibar this Valentine’s Day… white sand, blue skies, 30 degrees every day, what more does one need!  While not a huge fan of chain hotels, I have to say the Meliá Zanzibar far exceeded my expectations, and really is one of the most romantic seaside resorts I have ever visited.  With fresh rose petals placed on the bed daily, superior service, and fantastic dining venues, every day is Valentine’s Day in Zanzibar!
