It has been a long and cold winter here in the Austrian Alps, but summer has finally arrived (with a vengeance) bringing a rather sweltering 35 degrees!
The fields are green, the Elder trees are full of blossom, the world-famous Schubertiade is underway here in my hometown (village) of Schwarzenberg, and I am happy to say that the land of Alpine Adventures is most definitely open and ready for some summertime action!
Austria is a fantastic holiday destination for those looking for something a little bit different, and while it may not have the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, it has all the freshwater lakes, cycling routes, hiking trails, fishing spots and Sachertorte (Google it!) one could possibly wish for – making it perfect for travellers who love the great outdoors.
If cycling holidays and trekking tours are not quite up your street, you will be pleased to know that Austria is perfect for Bikers, and if you have yet to ride up Grossglockner on your Harley (or Vespa), you are in for a real treat!
Austria may have a reputation for being a ‘winter wonderland’, but for me, Austria is even more beautiful during the summer months – and after looking at the pictures below, I am sure you will agree – Austria is simply Wunderbar!
