If there is one country sitting right at the top of my Bucket List, it would have to be the ‘forbidden’ land of Tibet.
Home to the mighty Mount Everest (one side at least!), and the imposing and inhospitable Himalayan Mountain Range, Tibet has drawn intrepid travellers for centuries, and I too am beginning to feel the pull of this magical and mysterious land.
Not that I want to attempt Everest (well, not yet anyway!), Kilimanjaro was enough for me, but I would like to witness its gigantic glittering peak first-hand, cross the high altitude desert, and visit the enchanting city of Lhasa at 3700 metres above sea level, a place often described as a “living museum of Tibetan Buddhist culture”.
While I have much to learn about Tibet as a holiday destination, I do know that many travellers combine this unique country with a trip to neighbouring China, and if you like the idea of climbing the Great Wall of China, visiting the Great Pandas at the Chengdu Panda Reserve, and marching with the Terracotta Warriors – this might be a trip for you too!
We would love to hear from anyone who has visited Tibet, was it everything you dreamed it would be? Please drop us a line and let us know!
