There is definitely something special about Siena, and if you are heading to Tuscany any time soon, we can highly recommend you to incorporate this UNESCO World Heritage Site into your travel itinerary.
Often overlooked by those heading to Tuscany on a short trip, Siena seems to fall in the shadows of its big sister Florence, but if you want to enjoy the beauty of a historic Italian city without the crowds, overpriced restaurants, and tacky souvenir stores, Siena is the perfect getaway.
We found Siena very similar to Florence in terms of architecture and scenery, although the historical centre is much smaller. It has its own cathedral, the most beautiful Piazza del Campo where you can stop for lunch and watch the world go by, and quaint cobbled streets where you can lose yourself in tiny cafes, wine bars, and delicious delicatessen shops serving tasty Italian treats.
