Holiday trends have definitely changed over the past few years, and if a recent poll by foreign exchange company Travelex is anything to go by, it looks as though half of us are going ditch our fortnight on the beach for something much sportier in 2015 and 2016.
Fitness holidays are taking the world by storm, quite literally, and whether you are looking for a hiking expedition to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, a mountain bike adventure in Namibia, a Yoga Retreat in Bali, or Nordic Walking in New Zealand, you can pretty much guarantee there is a holiday package just waiting for you!
No longer satisfied with sun, sea and sangria, the travellers of today are using their valuable holiday time to learn a new skill, try a new sport, lose weight, tone up and concentrate on their well-being, and with a strong Pound GBP, we can all travel further to those destinations we may not have considered before such as Tanzania, Australia and Chile.
When it comes to the type of fitness holiday we want to take, well, the world really is our oyster! Naked Yoga, learning to fly on a Trapeze, long-distance ice skating, dance classes, and cycling tours are set to be very popular indeed in the coming years, but if you prefer something a little less ‘exotic’, you could always spend a week or two meditating to find your ‘inner self’!
We have long seen photos of celebrities looking fabulous while doing yoga on the beach (think Gisele Bundchen and Miranda Kerr!), but now it seems it is time for us mere mortals to get in on some holiday activity too, so with that in mind I’m off to book my next fitness holiday – Mount Kilimanjaro here I come!
