Top 10 Countries to Visit in 2016: Which One Will You Visit?

Lonely Planet has finally released its ‘Best in Travel 2016’ guidebook, and if you are thinking about booking your 2016 holiday before the festive season kicks in, now is definitely the time to grab yourself a copy and check out the Top 10 Countries to Visit in the coming year.

Written by professionals who constantly travel the world in search of the best cities, the best regions, and the best countries to visit (sound like my perfect job!), the book is bursting with useful information that can help you plan your next overseas adventure, and avoid those destinations that could fall short of your expectations.

Best Honeymoon Destinations in the World

When it comes to the Top 10 Countries to visit in 2016, well the list has a few surprises with the likes of Poland and Latvia, but there are some Bucket List favourites on there too such as Fiji and Australia, so there really is something for everyone.

So without further ado, here is the list of the 10 best countries in the world to visit in 2016 (according to LP):

  1. Botswana

This one is hardly a surprise. Botswana is the safari capital of the world, and if you are looking for an authentic safari experience in one of Africa’s most spectacular countries, this should be your holiday destination for 2016.

  1. Japan

Japan is becoming one of our most popular Honeymoon destinations, and so I’m not surprised that this oriental gem made it onto the list.  A safe country with endless sightseeing options, it’s a great choice for a romantic break or a fun family holiday.

  1. USA

What’s not to love about the USA!  Bright lights, big cities, endless of entertainment, and the biggest servings of Cheesecake you have ever seen! There is something for everyone in the United States of America, and it rightly deserves its place on the list.

  1. Palau

Described as one of the most breath-taking diving destinations in the world, Palau is an archipelago made up of more than 500 islands nestling in the Micronesia region of the Pacific Ocean (Google it!).  A true paradise for diving and snorkelling, this is a great choice for your 2016 holiday.

  1. Latvia

A little closer to home (for us, at least), Latvia is described by Lonely planet as a ‘Baltic Treasure’. If your idea of the perfect holiday includes history, culture and traditional Baltic cuisine, this could be the perfect spot for you next year!

  1. Australia

A bucket list favourite, Australia is one of the most amazing holiday destinations on planet earth, and with the Pound Sterling recently strengthening against the Aussie Dollar, it is more affordable than it has been in a long time.  The perfect destination for a road tripping adventure!

  1. Poland

Set to become the European Capital of Culture in 2016, Poland is the home of historic cities, Castles and Cathedrals, salt mines, mountains, lakes and over 100 breweries!

  1. Uruguay

With its prime position between Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay is often seen as a stopover for travellers on South American adventures, but this is set to change in 2016. More than 3 million of us are expected to holiday there – and I’m hoping I’ll be one of them!

  1. Greenland

One of the best places in the world to view the Northern Lights, Greenland is an arctic wonderland and one of the least populated countries in the world. In March 2016, it will host the Arctic Winter Games – so grab your thermals and head on over!

  1. Fiji

Last, but by no means least, Fiji is the ultimate beach holiday destination for 2016, and whether you are looking for a romantic honeymoon or an island hopping adventure, you will find it all right here.  Every bit as beautiful as you imagine, Fiji should be at the top of this list!
