There’s nothing like a good traveller survey to highlight the best holiday destinations to visit in the coming year, and so when Rough Guides released their recently updated World’s Most Beautiful Country List, as voted for by readers of the popular travel publisher, we had to take a peek!

As always when it comes to such reports, there are a few surprises on the list, with perhaps the biggest surprise of all being the number #1 spot – Scotland! Don’t get me wrong, Scotland is a truly magnificent country that most definitely deserves the title of the World’s Most Beautiful Country, but who knew that the most beautiful place in the world was right here in the United Kingdom!
England and Wales also feature on the Top 10 worlds’ most beautiful countries list, and Ireland makes it in to the Top 20, and so if you were thinking about taking a staycation in 2017, there isn’t anywhere better in the world to do it than good old Blighty.
Alas, if you are looking for some winter sun, you are going to have to go further afield, but there are plenty of options to choose from on the World’s Most Beautiful Country List. Here’s the Top 20 to tickle your taste buds…
