While I have yet to master the game of golf, I do find the sport fascinating, and the thought of spending my retirement years out in the fresh air surrounded by beautiful scenery and swanky club houses is enough to make me want to practice my swing and try on a pair of tweed Plus Fours…!
Golfing holidays are becoming more and more popular, and with amazing properties like Fancourt, Pearl Valley and Leopard’s Creek in South Africa, it is no wonder that golfers of every level are packing their clubs along with their safari boots and heading off to the Rainbow Nation for a spot of sporting action.
We visited the Pearl Valley Golf Estate during the South African Open in 2009, and it was easy to see why this exquisite golf course picks up awards year after year. With superb playing conditions, a multitude of holiday rental properties, lounges, bars, restaurants and a pool on-site, this wonderful golf resort in the Western Cape is surrounded by vineyards, and best of all, it’s just 30 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

If your idea of the perfect golfing holiday is an uber-luxurious Golf Resort with fine dining and Spa facilities, then we would have to recommend Fancourt South Africa – a breathtaking property that combines a world-class golf course with accommodation in a Leading Hotel of the World.
Chic, sophisticated and constantly voted as the Number #1 Golf Course in South Africa, Fancourt really does have it all, and thanks to its prime position on the Garden Route, it is perfect for those who wish to combine their golfing holiday with some sightseeing, and perhaps, a city break in Cape Town.
I certainly need to practice more than my swing if I am to play on either of the above courses, but I have been assured I’m a good caddy… and if that means I get to spend all day on one of these gorgeous golf courses, I am more than happy to carry the clubs!
