You would think that once you had travelled around the world, your passion for travel would be sated and that you could start getting on with a ‘normal’ life… but for us, it seems to have had the opposite effect!
Since returning to ‘the real world’ we have found that we want to see even more of it, and while we managed to score quite a few dreams /wishes off our original Bucket List during our three-month adventure, our ‘to do’ list is now longer than ever before…
Did the phrase ‘Bucket List’ even exist before the 2007 movie? I really don’t know! But, I do think everyone should have a list of dreams, goals, ambitions and aspirations, and while some may involve a lottery win (most of mine do!), others cost nothing at all.
As my own Bucket List seems to grow by the day, I thought it would be a good idea to write it down on a blog, so I can look back in a few years and see what I have achieved, and what I still need to work on…
- Shake Nelson Mandela’s Hand (I may have left this one too late – but he is my inspiration)
- Walk the Great Wall of China
- Sail the South Pacific
- Take a Gorilla Safari in Uganda or/and Rwanda
- Climb Kilimanjaro (again!) It was so wonderful the first time around that I want to do it again
- Then climb Aconcagua in Argentina…
- Have a picnic on Easter Island
- Drive from Alaska to Ushuaia with my bestest buddy on our motorbike
- Take a World Cruise on a luxury cruise ship
- Take a Space Flight with Virgin Galactic
- Volunteer at a Rhino Conservation Programme in Africa
- Master the German language (still struggling!)
- Visit Nepal and Tibet
- Cycle the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge – New Zealand
- Observe the Northern Lights in Norway
- Sail down the Amazon
- Drive across Canada in an RV
- Run the New York Marathon (or perhaps half of it!)
- Witness the Great Serengeti Migration in Kenya/Tanzania
- Dress up in a gorgeous frock and head to the Wiener Opernball (Vienna Opera Ball) at the Vienna State Opera
- Have a picnic under the stars in the Namibia Desert
- Spend a few weeks Island Hopping in the Philippines
- Learn to Ski (as with the German, it is not as easy as I had hoped!)
- See Andrea Bocelli live in concert
- Visit the Galapagos Islands
- Learn to bake cakes – in fact, strike that one! Life’s too short…
- Take a Trekking Tour of Torres Del Paine National Park in Chile
- Retire with the love of my life to a Vineyard in South Africa, Argentina or California – where we will learn how to grow and make our own wine
- Rescue a pack of dogs to share our Vineyard with
- Win the lottery – so I can afford all of the above!
Who knows how many of the above I will manage to strike off my bucket list, but I am going to give it a damn good go, and in the meantime, I will leave you with two great quotes by my hero Mr. Nelson Mandela (Madiba):
“After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.”
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
