Friday 4th October 2013 is World Animal Day, and if you love all creatures great and small, now is the time to follow the mission statement of world animal day and:
Celebrate animal life in all its forms
Acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives
Be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives
Take this special opportunity to help make animal welfare issues front-page news around the globe
As someone who adores animals (possibly more than human beings!), I struggle to understand how anyone could harm a creature for the sake of its horn, tusk, fin or fur coat, how anyone could profit from breeding dogs who spend their entire life in a cage, and how anyone could harm an animal for fun… but sadly, not everyone feels the same.
However, World Animal Day is all about celebrating these beautiful creatures with who we share our planet, and so I dedicate this blog to some very special girls and boys we have met on our journeys around the world…
Meet Paco, a street dog living in Salta Argentina. Paco had a terrible eye infection…he was so grateful for his daily treatment…Beautiful Rhinos of Lalibela Game Reserve South Africa… both were poached shortly after this photo was taken – for their horn…This is Bruno… Bruno was dumped in the hills of Crete, Greece – despite being a pedigree Boxer. After several weeks with us, Bruno found a loving home on the islandYannis and Dimitris…. Dumped on the side of a road in Greece – rehomed in GermanyMiss Piggy! A tiny Warthog rejected by its mother – rescued by one of Kariega’s Game Rangers South AfricaChang lives on the chaotic streets of Bangkok… No home, no family, the only thing she knows is litter after litter and hunger.Another ‘victim’ of Crete, Julia was left on the side of the road at 4 weeks old… as soon as she was strong enough she went to an English couple in BulgariaThe most pampered pooch in the world – and she deserved it! Our very own princess.
Thanks for the post – I did not know such a day existed and I love that it does!
Thank you for stopping by Reverse Commuter! Yes, there is a ‘day’ for almost everything these days… but this one I like! 😉
