The life-force behind Victoria Falls, the mighty Zambezi River is Africa’s fourth largest river system, which passes through six different African countries on its journey from the Mwinilunga District of north-western Zambia to the mouth of the Indian Ocean in Mozambique.
Often referred to as “The River of Life”, the Zambezi River supports millions of people and a diverse range of flora and fauna as it winds its way through Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, so you never have to travel far to find an abundance of wildlife along its protected shores.
During our recent visit to Zambia, we were lucky enough to stay at Sindabezi Island, a luxury retreat in the middle of the Zambezi River. As the only guests on the island, we had this tropical paradise all to ourselves… well, except for the resident hippo ‘Horace’, monitor lizards and an entire menagerie of tropical birds!
