As summer finally draws to an end, many intrepid travellers are already searching for their next overseas break, and if you are looking for a little bit of action and adventure to spice up spring 2019, the brand new Langtang – Gosainkunda – Helambu Trek in Nepal could be the perfect trip for you.
A fabulous alternative for those who love the idea of trekking in Nepal but are looking for something a little bit different to the extremely popular Everest Base Camp, this 15 day group tour will take you away from the main tourist trails and deep into the Himalayas, where you will have the opportunity to meet local people, trek the most breathtaking trails, and experience the very best of what this magnificent country has to offer.
This fixed group departure runs from 2nd – 16th March 2019, starting in the bustling metropolis of Kathmandu. Here’s a brief overview:
- Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu, transfer to hotel, the rest of day is at leisure.
- Day 2: After breakfast, transfer from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi, which takes approximately 9 hours along a picturesque route of scenic foothills, ridgeline vistas, green hills and a glimpse of the Ganesh Himal Mountains. A stop for lunch will be made on route. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 3: Trek from Syabru Besi (1600m) to Lama Hotel (2470m), which takes approximately five and half hours. Lunch will be enjoyed on route, and the trail will end at Lama Hotel where you will spend the night. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 4: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3430m) via Ghore Tabela which takes approximately six hours. Langtang Village is the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. Here, you will see traditional flat-roofed Tibetan style houses surrounded by stone walls. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 5: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyangjin (3870m) which takes approximately three hours. The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures and crosses several small streams. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 6: Rest day in Kyangjin. Today has been set aside to acclimatize and rest. You can visit the local monastery and cheese factory or take a walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 7: Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2470m) which takes approximately six hours. From Kyangjin, you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang Village and on to Ghora Tabela where you will have lunch before descending to Lama Hotel. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 8: Trek from Lama Hotel (2470m) to Thulo Syabru (2260m) which takes approximately five hours. While the trek starts gently, it ramps up to Thulo Syabru, but it is worth every step, and once you arrive at your destination, you will enjoy spectacular views of Ganesh Himal (7110m) and its ranges. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 9: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa or Chandan Bari (3250m) which takes approximately four and half hours. While relatively steep, the trails here offer wonderful views of Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal, and you will get to experience stunning Tibetan mountain forests. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 10: Trek from Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda (4361m) via Lauribinayak La (3920m) which takes approximately five and half hours. Today you will follow rugged trails with dramatic views including Himal Chuli (7893m), Manaslu Range (8156mm), and on a clear day, even the Annapurna Range. Gosaikunda is famous for its holy lakes, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosainkunda. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 11: Trek from Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3300 m) which takes approximately seven hours. Today you can expect tremendous views of Annapurna, Manaslu and many other snow-capped peaks. You will cross the Lauribinayak Pass (4600 m), before descending to Phedi and finally Ghopte for dinner and overnight. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 12: Trek from Ghopte to Kutumsang (2446m) which takes around five hours through verdant forest with oak, bamboo and rhododendron. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 13: Trek from Kutumsang to Chisopani which takes approximately six hours. From Kutumsang, you will climb to 2620m over a pass before descending to Gul Bhanjyang Village for lunch. Afterwards you will continue to Chisopani for dinner and overnight. Overnight at a Tea House. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
- Day 14: Trek down to Sundarijal and drive to Kathmandu (1350m.) which takes about seven hours in total. In Kathmandu, you will have an evening at leisure to explore the city and its many restaurants. Overnight in a hotel. Meals included: Breakfast.
- Day 15: Transfer to the airport for your return flight home. Meals Included: Breakfast
