Taking the Inca Trail – A Once in a Lifetime Adventure to Machu Picchu

While my Bucket List is literally overflowing with things to do, places to go, and people to see, there is one item that has never faltered from my ‘top five’ list, and that is trekking along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Much like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking to Machu Picchu is a well-known and well-travelled route, but I have yet to meet anyone who was disappointed with either of these adventures, and believe that the ancient ruins of this archaeological site are some of the most enchanting and engaging found on our planet today.

You only have to look online to see that there are endless different options when it comes to Peru’s Inca Trail, and whether your decide to take the short 2-day option, the Classic Machu Picchu 4-day tour, or extend with a 10-day trekking trip throughout the Andes, the experience is sure to be unforgettable.

Of course, Peru has much more to offer travellers than ‘just’ Machu Picchu, and if you are making your way down (or up!) to South America to visit “the Lost City of the Incas”, then it would be a shame not to visit the exciting cities of Lima, Arequipa, Puno, Cusco and the beautiful deep blue lake of Titicaca.

When I will finally get to cross ‘Trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu’ off my bucket list, I do not know… but I have been very good this year, so perhaps Santa will be generous!

If you have completed a pilgrimage to Peru’s Ancient City, please send us a link to your blog, we would love to read all about it!
