Booking a safari holiday in one of Africa’s leading game reserves is an exciting prospect, but when it comes to wheelchair accessible safari camps, the choices are few and far between.
Most safari camps are located in remote locations and many are elevated on stilts, which makes it difficult to incorporate the necessary ramps for wheelchair users, but things are slowly but surely getting better, with Zambia leading they way with these three fabulous wheelchair friendly camps:
Anabezi Camp, Lower Zambezi
Situated in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Anabezi Camp is a luxurious lodge made up of twelve spacious tents. The meeting point for hundreds of animal species, it is the perfect place for bird watching, game viewing, and Zambezi based adventures, and despite being raised on timber platforms, this enchanting lodge welcomes wheelchair users with open arms.
The spacious accommodations allow you to move around freely, and the bar, swimming pool, and viewing decks are all easily accessible on one level.
Mfuwe Lodge, South Luangwa
Mfuwe is an award-winning safari lodge set in the most prolific game area of South Luangwa. Just inside the national parks main gate, it features a light and airy main lodge surrounded by 18 air-conditioned chalets.
As with Anabezi, the bar, restaurant, swimming pool and reception area are all on one level, and the suites are clutter-free and equipped with large doorways for enhanced wheelchair access.
The River Club, Livingstone
No trip to Zambia would be complete without a trip to Victoria Falls, and if you’re looking for wheelchair friendly accommodation in the region, look no further than The River Club in Livingstone.
An idyllic escape on the banks of the Zambezi River, it is the perfect destination for those who want to visit the falls before heading off on safari, and you’ll find a plethora of activities to enjoy on site such as sunset safari cruises and fishing trips.
